Why is it wrong to get drunk? Jesus turned the water into wine!

A glass of wine or a drink doesn’t send you to Hell but drunkenness does!  Drunkards will not inherit the Kingdom of God (1Corinthians 6:9-10).  If one drink makes you drunk, stay away from it.  The Bible is very clear that the abuse of alcohol or fermented wine destroys the body, mind and soul and should not be consumed.  Men have taken some verses out of context to justify their sin.  In review of this subject you must let the clear passages define the obscure.  There are 620 scripture references which will more clearly define what type of wine Jesus turned the water into at the wedding feast (1 John 2:1-11).  Many words have multiple definitions and the question is which one is being used in particular verses. The word "wine" in the N.T. is only used in the generic sense, while in the O.T. it is defined as juice and includes many forms of it.  Look at Isaiah 65:8. "As the new wine is found in the cluster", and ask what kind of new wine is found in this cluster?  The answer is obviously grape juice and not alcoholic wine.  In Jeremiah 40:12 the word wine here means juice and not the alcoholic wine purchased in a bar.  Grape juice takes time to ferment into alcohol.  New wine was put into new wine skins to keep it from fermenting (Matthew 9:17).  Look at Jeremiah 48:33.  The word wine here means juice though it’s called wine. You must look at the context. Look at Psalm 104:14-15 and ask what kind of wine is this?  But first look at Proverbs 23:29 and you will see this is alcohol.  So when wine is mentioned in Psalm 104 that gladdens the heart it is obviously grape juice.  Alcohol is a depressant!!!!!

Alcohol can fill men’s minds with impure and adulterous thoughts (Proverbs 23:33).  It brings violence, poverty, insecurity, forms habits, sorrow, lowers inhibitions, brings spiritual blindness and influences you to say perverse things (Proverbs 4:17, 20:1, 23:21, 29-30, 33-35. Isaiah 22:13, 28:7, 56:9-12, Habakuk.2:16). If you let the head of the snake in the crack of the door his whole body will get in.

So it must be concluded that when Jesus turned the water into wine it was a new wine or grape juice.  Alcohol is a temptation to man (Proverbs 23:31-32). In Matthew 18:7 - Jesus warned of those who offer stumbling blocks and temptation.  It is insane to think that our Lord would offer something that the Bible so clearly considers destructive.  The word wine in the N.T. can also mean grapes, figs, and grape cakes depending on the verse in context.  The Lord has warned that no drunkard shall inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).  Finally in regards to the Lord’s Supper or Communion the word wine is not even used.  This is an offense to God as the words used are "cup" or "fruit of the vine".

A glass of wine is not sin or a damnable offense as the scriptures clearly point out, the issue is drunkenness.
You may say that you are not a drunkard but only get drunk once in a great while. But how many banks do you have to rob to become a bank robber?  JUST ONE!!!  Repent and believe the Gospel!
