THE CREATION IS A WITNESS

Observation: The creation around us and all that we observe with our five senses is a witness that God exists. For this reason alone, no man will have an excuse. We are all accountable to God as He has revealed himself in the creation.

Scripture Study Reference # 1

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:18-20)."

Key Application Point: No one will have an excuse!

A point I hope we can agree on is that there is complexity in the design of the creation we observe. This points to an intelligence behind it all.  A car is not manufactured by some explosion in a junkyard.  A book isn't created because some type of dynamite is detonated in a print shop.  This is a primary reason I will never believe we come from some primordial sludge and were created by a big cosmic burp in the sky.  Just as there is a watchmaker for a watch, God is the intelligence behind all creation.

Point to Ponder:  Imagine one day you and a friend are walking on a beach and you see a Mercedes Benz washing up onto the shore.  What would you think if your friend said, "Look at what the ocean made"?  Common sense would say that it was manufactured in a car assembly factory.  You could wait millions of years and the ocean would not make one tire!  Complexity in design (the creation) is produced by intelligence - God.

As man walks the earth, creation is observable through his five senses.  This brings man to a place where he asks, "Who made this?"  If man is willing to listen, God is willing to answer the question. Nobody will stand before the throne of God and say I never knew you (God) existed.  Creation is that very testament of God's existence. There will be no excuses!

CAMPUS REALITY SHOW:

Michigan Technological University in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan hosts an ice carnival every February. It is an engineering school and they build these massive, intricate ice sculptures. The designs are incredible and the students work for weeks, using their intelligence and artistic talents.

I have preached open air on this campus for a number of years and decided to attend the carnival, knowing full well it ends up to be one all-night party before the judging of the sculptures. During one of the ice carnivals, I decided to challenge the students on why they were taking so much time to build their ice sculptures. I said I had a solution, and it was a much easier way -- they needed to apply what their professors were teaching them in the classroom.

I told the students they needed to obtain the use of a number of dump trucks, fill them with snow, and create one big snow pile. Then they would need some sticks of dynamite with long fuses to bury in the pile. Finally, they would light the fuse, stand back and cup their hands over their ears, and close their eyes. After the explosion, when they opened their eyes, they would see a beautiful ice sculpture where the snow pile had been.

For some reason, the students did not accept my suggestion for creating an ice sculpture. They ridiculed and laughed at me, but yet this is what they believed regarding the creation of our universe. It reminded me of what Jesus said: They have eyes to see but they don't see, and ears to hear but they don't hear.

Point to Ponder:  "One cannot be exposed to the law and order of the universe without concluding that there must be design and purpose behind it all.  To be forced to believe only one conclusion -- that everything in the universe happened by chance -- would violate the very objectivity of science itself. They (evolutionists) challenge science to prove the existence of God.  But must we really light a candle to see the sun?  It is in scientific honesty that I endorse the presentation of alternative theories for the origin of the universe, life, and man in the science classroom.  It would be an error to overlook the possibility that the universe was planned rather than happening by chance." - Dr. Wernher von Braun

Scripture Study Reference #2

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork (Psalm 19:1)."

"The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory (Psalm 97:6)."

Key Application Point: Creation displays the awesomeness of God!

With the discovery of high-powered telescopes and electron microscopes, we are witnessing the expanses of the heavens and minute details of our atomic structure.  Try to imagine what is in the beyond of the beyond.  There is no wall that says the universe stops here, because there is something behind that wall. When you look through a microscope, how small is small?  We are now able to observe parts of the atoms that make up our bodies.  But something makes up those parts of those atoms. Just as there is no end to bigness, there is no end to smallness.  We presently are somewhere in between.

The earth is a little dot in the Milky Way galaxy.  There are multitudes of other galaxies in the universe, yet we relegate such importance to ourselves.  The universe is so precise that any change in the earth's and sun's positions, alignment of the planets, or physical laws of the universe - such as gravity, electromagnetism, angular momentum, energy, mass, and light - would make life on this planet impossible.  Everything is intricately connected through perfection in design.  This did not all happen by chance! The fingerprint of a creator is on the universe.

Point to Ponder:  "Everyone who is seriously interested in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe = a spirit vastly superior to man, and one in the face of which our modest powers must feel humble." - Albert Einstein

Think About It:  The probability of a protein of only 50 amino acids forming by chance, would be 1/10 to the 65th power, or in layman terms ? an astronomical absurdity that goes beyond any imagination -- 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to one.

The evidence revealing God as creator is so overwhelming. These individual facts must be considered. All cosmological and teleological signs point us to intelligent design. It seems that if eternity hangs in the balance one would be wise enough to investigate these signs with great sincerity. Nothing inside of nature could have caused the universe. Something outside of nature that is timeless, nonmaterial, powerful, spaceless, and pre-eminent created it.

Point to Ponder:  Science is man's feeble effort to find out what God already knows.

Scripture Study Reference #3

"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them (Psalm 139:14-16)."

Key Application Point:
The human body is an amazing work of God!

There is a concept in science called the law of "irreducible complexity."  A biochemistry professor by the name of Michael J. Behe (he was an evolutionist) said this law acknowledges a powerful challenge to Darwin's theory of evolution. Behe uses a simple example of a mousetrap to explain the concept. A mousetrap has five main functional components. If one of those components is missing, it will not work and certainly not trap any mice.  This is what Charles Darwin said in his work The Origin of Species: "If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down." Guess what, Charlie, your theory has broken down!

To further illustrate the idea, let's see what Charles Darwin reasoned out about the human eye. According to Darwin:  "To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection, seems I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree. If man cannot begin to make a human eye, how could anyone in his right mind think that eyes form by mere chance?  In fact, man cannot make anything from nothing. We don't know how to do it. We can't re-create, reform, develop, . . . but we cannot create even one grain of sand from nothing.  Yet, the eye is only a small part of the most sophisticated part of creation - the human body."

George Gallup, the famous statistician said, "I could prove God statistically taking the human body alone; the chance that all the functions of the individual just happen is a statistical monstrosity."

The human body is made up of a complexity of parts that work and collaborate together to create a purposeful function.  This requires a designer! Just taking the eye alone, we see that it has many parts that function cooperatively to make it operate and give us the ability to see.  Apply the same principle to every part of your human body, including the various systems that operate within it.  Who but God could have created you?

Point to Ponder:
"A bacterium is far more complex than any inanimate system known to man. There is not a laboratory in the world which can compete with the biochemical activity of the smallest living organism. One cell is more complicated than the largest computer that man has ever made." - Sir James Gray, Cambridge University

Scripture Study Reference # 4

"God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:24- 28)."

Key Application Point:  The human race has one common ancestor!

We were created in God's image. When he made man, he said it was good and that we were to replenish and multiply on the earth.  If this is so, we should all have one common ancestor. As studies of DNA have progressed and advanced, we see that all humans are closely related.  It points to the fact that we share genes with one male ancestor.  This has been called the Y chromosome Adam. When we think this through, we see that man's origin was in a specific location on the earth and it spread out from there.  This coincides with the Genesis account on the origin of man.

The human genome is so complex that man is just scratching the surface of understanding the messages within it.  There is an architect and designer behind it all. Richard Dawkins, a noted evolutionist, said that in one amoeba (simplest form of life) contains 1,000 volumes of an Encyclopedia Britannica.  Just think about it. To believe life originated from some natural law or evolutionary process is mind boggling, to say the least. It takes more faith to be an atheist than a Christian.

Point to Ponder:  "Though more statistically improbable a thing is, the less can we believe that it just happened by blind chance.  Superficially, the obvious alternative to chance is an intelligent designer." - Dr. Richard Dawkins (a well known evolutionist)
